an emerging community in Kanata, ON
Under the leadership of Jay Williamson, Proximity’s heart is to serve their community through missional living.
Their name, “Proximity,” was chosen to serve as a reminder of the value of abiding in Christ and in relationship with others both inside and outside the church family.
They are focusing on community service and outreach, and their heart is to actively pursue further church planting opportunities in rural West Ottawa communities as home groups grow or opportunities to partner arise. In the face of trends towards isolation, they want to be a relational church that prioritizes connection with God and each other over systems and structure or performance.
Kanata: Why Here?
A high proportion of the population of many neighbourhoods in Ottawa consist of seniors living alone.
High housing costs and low rental vacancy rates are increasing homelessness in Ottawa.
The name “Kanata” comes from native Huron-Iroquois dialects and means “meeting place,” and yet there is need for a meeting place that welcomes Jesus.
Jay Williamson has served in a variety of ministry roles since graduating from Bible School in 1993 ranging from youth to lead pastor to planter. Together he and his wife Heather have 3 incredible children Cassie, Andrew and Naomi. As a family they have enjoyed serving the church in both urban and rural settings. Jay enjoys good food, friends, classic cars, motorcycles and peanut M&M’s.
